Please pray for Cheyenne (my 4 yo granddaughter) She was just removed from her mother's home last Thursday night and placed in foster care. We didn't spot her injuries until we'd had her at David's 8 hours so they aren't believing us that it didn't happen at David's. So instead of placing her with any of us they want her in a neutral setting. Please pray for her safety and that God would give her peace. I'm sure she is scared and doesn't know what is going on. Her mom was screaming at the worker too so it wasn't pretty for Cheyenne. We are praying that the truth would come out quickly and that she would be safe. Last Friday David gave permission for the foster family to take her to a water park this weekend. They say she is adjusting well.

Hayden is at his mom's right now. He didn't have injuries so they didn't remove him. David had him Thurs and Fri. Pray for him too. I'm sure he is missing Cheyenne alot. I wish they would have taken him too. Now we still get to watch over him like a hawk. Thank you for the prayers.

Since the temporary removal hearing Cheyenne is staying with the foster mom for now. David and Lianne got to see her yesterday afternoon for the first time. And she saw her therapist on Thurs- the therapist told me she seemed a little afraid at first, but then told her she felt safe and liked her foster home. She did tell me Cheyenne is confused. Keep praying for her and Hayden- now every owey Hayden gets he says that David and Lianne did it (when Lianne asks)- even when she knows what happened. So we are pretty sure Tara and Rusty are working on him a lot. We are praying for the truth to shine through and for their safety and to keep their hearts soft.

David saw Cheyenne and she came running to him and he said he almost cried. But he said she seemed like when she's at their house for a while. Happy and relaxed. We got the abuse report and its pretty crazy. I hope Tara continues to be uncooperative. Because they'd much rather work with David. Tara wouldn't have allowed her to go to the waterpark out of state either. And the school had negative things to say about her and Rusty too. Keep praying the truth comes out - both David and Tara have to go to mediation and therapy. That's a good thing. I really think she's got some mental illness. David has already seen the mediator twice last winter when Tara didn't show. So she knows his side of things pretty well.

CASA

As of Monday I am officially a CASA.  That stands for court appointed special advocate.  I will be assigned a child in foster care and I am to be their voice to the court.  That means I am to meet with them monthly, speak with all people associated with them, review medical and psychiatric files, etc.  It will be job to tell the court what I believe to be in the best interests of the child.  I will be linked to that child until the are out of the system.  This is a volunteer position which means I don't have to feel like I have to please the higher ups at DHS or anything.  This means I will be able to make an independent assessment.  The role is similar to the GAL-the attorney appointed to the kid, except they never seem to have enough time to talk to the kids.  I had to be finger printed, sworn in by the judge the whole nine yards.  3 solid days of training this spring in Cedar Rapids and continual training throughout the year.  I guess if I can make the difference in one child's life it will be worth it.

My supervisor recommended watching Gone Baby Gone.  It was good (lots of bad language) couldn't believe the twist at the end.  What would you have done.  Dale and I have discussed it alot.  What is the best interest of the child?

Area floods

So we are sitting high and dry in Calmar, but Monday Decorah's lower areas (the Flat and West side) were evacuated due to floods.  by Walmart by Walmartdecorah dike Almost over the dike.

Late at night (10pm) we heard them say flooding in Chickasaw County so we got worried about Katie's house (since they are in Mexico)   So we went down to check - it was fine.  The next morning the Ft Atkinson bridge was gone, we had been on it.  ft bridge  (I think we were sitting on that spot about 11:30 pm- Ack!)

Flood waters are receding in Decorah, but Cedar Falls & Waterloo are worried.  David is fine for now though.

Christmas was crazy, busy fun!  Katie & Jason & the kids came all Christmas Eve day and Lianne, David & Mischa came in the evening.  There was sledding, games, food, and present opening.  They all spent the night.  David picked up Cheyenne & Hayden in the morning and we all went to Mom & Dad's for brunch.  Everyone had a great time.  We love having everyone home, but boy is it noisy!  We managed with one bathroom though!    Next year we need to put a bathroom in downstairs.  I'm enjoying the peace at home today.  One of my last days to be at home before tax season ensues.  *sigh*  I love being home.  I love our new home.  Its so cozy.  Can't wait until tax season is over and spring is here so we can start painting and planting and making it more ours!  Yeah!

PS we have a nice guest room if anyone is in the area and wants to stay!
